It is almost 10 years since the sentencing and imprisonment of the individuals involved in the selling of fake explosives detectors, the so called ‘magic wands’. Significant fortunes were made and lives and property destroyed as a result of the use of these units, which had as their origin novelty golf ball locators, and were deployed to secure central Baghdad against the threat from VBIEDs. These devices were not only sold to the Iraq Security Forces but to many other countries and their use within government agencies and commercial security providers probably continues until the present.
